A little planning makes striping day faster and keeps your lot closed for as short a time as possible. Here is a simple checklist.
Before the day
- Tell people early. Let tenants, employees and customers know the date and which areas will be closed. A notice a week ahead and a reminder the day before works well.
- Decide what you want marked. Reserved spaces, numbering, visitor or compact spaces, arrows, fire lanes, loading zones. It is easier to plan these during the estimate than on the day.
- Check for recent sealcoating. Fresh sealcoat needs time to cure before it can be striped. If you are sealcoating too, we will help plan the timing.
On the day
- Clear the lot. Cars, trailers and anything movable need to be out of the areas being striped.
- Start with clean pavement. Dirt, debris and oil keep paint from bonding. The lot should be swept before painting.
- Watch the weather. Paint needs dry pavement. If rain is in the forecast, the job may need to move to another day.
After painting
- Keep traffic off fresh lines. Drying time depends on the weather and the paint. We will tell you how long to keep cars off and can leave cones in place.
- Walk the lot. Check the finished job together so everything is marked the way you want.
